Lockheed Martin achieves ISO 14001 through BSI Inc

BSI Inc, a member of the BSI Group, announced that it granted its first RAB accredited ISO 14001 registration to Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, Fort Worth, Texas.

Lockheed Martin received this registration for meeting quality standards for its environmental management system (EMS).

ISO 14000 is a series of standards that provide an organization with a structure for managing its environmental activities. Within this series, ISO 14001 helps firms manage their processes and activities to both identify and control environmental impacts.

Only accredited registrars can certify that a firm meets the rigorous standards of ISO 14001. As of July 2001, more than 1200 companies in the U.S. had obtained ISO 14001 registration.

BSI Inc recently received ISO 14001 accreditation from the American National Standards Institute- Registrar Accreditation Board (ANSI-RAB).

Lockheed Martin is the first company that BSI has registered under its ANSI-RAB ISO 14001 accreditation. The BSI Group had previously issued ISO 14001 registrations worldwide under its accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

"We originally chose BSI as our ISO 14001 registrar because of their outstanding international reputation. We are extremely pleased that they now are able to verify our conformance to the standard under the United States ANSI-RAB accreditation standards.
